I&#039;m even more pissed that when it was clear that we weren&#039;t getting what we were paying for, six months after the original deadline for the new system to be online, executive management &lt;em&gt;increased&lt;/em&gt; the budget for the Netcool project. Talk about escalation of failure.</description>

		<description>Netcool just sucks, and there&#039;s no way around it.  And you can say the same thing for every other expensive system like it.  SolarWInds, OpenView, etc.  They&#039;re all designed to be as inefficient as possible because they are sold by &quot;solution providers&quot;.   Oh yeah, you&#039;re gonna need a bunch of expensive hardware, intensive training and it STILL won&#039;t do what you want it too.   Then you need custom integration. That&#039;s when the money really starts to flow.

For network monitoring and management open source is the only way to go.   All written to be as efficient as possible by people that just want it to work and will never make a dime off it.
